Christmas Party

Saturday was our church Christmas party.  It was an interesting event, with a Christmas program followed by bag lunches in the cultural hall.  (Our building is undergoing a big renovation right now so we had to improvise and eat on picnic blankets.)  Topher found the Jell-O cubes quite confusing.  Apparently we never eat Jell-O and he just kept licking it but was afraid to take a bite.

Our family in our "casual holiday attire".

The very best part was when they asked everyone to start singing Jingle Bells.  The entire cultural hall full of people started singing, and then Santa walked in!  I wish I had a picture of Topher's face at that moment.  He looked utterly stunned.  He was so brave taking a picture with Santa, too, even though he wouldn't talk to him.

The next day was Topher's last day in nursery.  Now if you know me you know I love that my son is getting bigger and I never long for his baby days to return.  However.  However...knowing that my little boy is big enough to go to a Primary class now hit me kind of hard.  (Come January, he will be a Sunbeam.  There's even a song: "Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam, to shine for him each day..."  It's adorable.)

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus here in Ankeny, Iowa.  About a month ago Topher opened the doors of the electric fireplace, looked up inside it and called out, "Santa?  Santa Claus?"  I loved it.  I love the magic of the season and the magic of Topher's age.

Tomorrow we head to Kansas City to visit my family.  We'll come home on Christmas Eve so we can wake up in our own home on Christmas morning.  We'll open presents, go to church and spend the rest of the day playing with presents and watching movies and drinking cocoa.

Here's wishing you all a wonderful holiday full of happiness and anticipation and the spirit of Christmas.
