Discovering Bugs

When you have a little boy, it's inevitable that he will develop an affinity for bugs. Topher just noticed ants on one of our walks this past week, and he's been fascinated ever since. Look mom, I found an ant! Wait, it was just here... Oh there it is! But when we came across a millipede, his curiosity intensified.

I think I'm going to need to touch that.

Luckily, the little guy survived his encounter with Topher. This time.

Plan B for the Fourth

Well, we had grand plans to go to Kansas City for the 4th of July, but Topher woke up vomiting, so we had to rearrange those plans. Instead of traveling, we had a long, lazy weekend at home. We were really sad to miss Jeff & Aby's famous 4th party, and really sad to miss out on a luxurious sleep in Aubrey's awesome bed (thanks for always being so willing to give up your room, you gorgeous girl!), but Topher could never have made the trip. Instead, he lay motionless on the living room floor watching Curious George and not moving for hours (and if you know Topher, you know that laying still means he REALLY doesn't feel good.)

Luckily, we have a St. Bernard. Being a rescue dog, she knows exactly what to do when someone is in need of medical attention: stay close and send lots of good vibes through your big puppy dog eyes. No wonder they say Saints make perfect family dogs.

After Topher starting feeling better, the rest of the weekend wasn't too bad. We visited the city's Splash Park, rented movies, took walks, and listened to fireworks (we couldn't actually see any from our house but we could hear them in the distance.)

It wasn't the weekend we had planned, but it wasn't too shabby, either. And hopefully next year we'll get to try those yummy cupcakes, Aby. Happy Birthday, America!
